BACKGROUND
Born in 1920, died 2010. Born to a poor farming family, he was sent to Manchuria during the Pacific War. After surviving and recovering from a relapse of tuberculosis, survivor's guilt led him to devote his life to others. In 1958, as a teacher at a junior high school in Ashikaga, he cleared a vineyard on a steep mountain slope with children from his special-needs class. In 1969 he founded Kokoromi Gakuen; in 1980 he established Coco Farm Winery as a separate company, obtaining a fruit-wine license in 1984.
PREVIOUS CAREER
