BACKGROUND

Resolving to make wine, he left a farm-machinery maker after ten years and moved to Takayama, Nagano. Learning at nearby wineries and vineyards and in the Jura region of France, he began growing grapes in 2018. His vineyards are scattered across an area of 580–770 m elevation. From 2022 he vinifies under contract at two sites, Minakata Jōzō and Terre de Ciel.
